【Quality Control Circle activity】Establishing Quality Awareness from the grassroots level
The Quality Control Circle (QCC) refers to a small group of about 6 to 8 individuals who voluntarily come together from similar or complementary work areas. Based on the seven basic quality control (QC) tools, they brainstorm and collaborate to solve various issues related to processes, costs, and workflows in their work.
The purpose is to address problems that arise during work processes, innovate or optimize current workflows, or proactively prevent issues from occurring. By colliding different ideas and opinions among team members, they can identify the root causes of problems or develop new approaches. Due to this nature, the entire activity cycle may be longer, with much time and labor costs, leading some companies to place less emphasis on training for this activity.
Of course, if QCC is implemented without training, it may result in ineffective circles. The reasons generally include: members are willing to improve but lack practical skills; members are unwilling to participate, thus treating the process superficially or dishonestly; and lack of support from supervisors or top management. In response, HIGHLY Company began promoting QCC activities in 2020, focusing on training frontline production personnel to establish a quality mindset from the grassroots level. HIGHLY have invested money and time to hire instructors to guide production line staff through the QCC process step by step, enhancing their problem-solving abilities. Supervisors and top management have also provided significant support and encouragement, closely following progress and offering guidance when circles encounter difficulties, maximizing the avoidance of wasted time.
Regardless of the industry, quality management should be a fundamental concept for everyone. However, effectively expressing this idea to all levels of the company has always been a challenge. Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa, the father of the QCC, once said, "Wherever there are people, QCC activities are applicable," and "Quality control begins with education and ends with education." HIGHLY believes that there are no shortcuts to achieving high quality in the long term; only by thoroughly implementing the concept of quality and deeply cultivating quality awareness at the grassroots level can make employee qualifications be enhanced. Promoting QCC not only creates greater benefits for the company but also provides customers with high-quality products.
